What I’ve Learned After 4 Years of Marriage

I’m crazy.

Juuuust kidding!!

But wow! Four years! Honestly if feels like it should be more. Four years have flown by! We sure have packed these four years. We’ve had two kids. Graduated BYU. Applied, interviewed, and got in to Dental School. Had countless jobs! Lived in 3 apartments and two states. Just SO MUCH!

We truly have experienced such highs like our sons being born. What a truly spiritual experience. And getting into Dental School! I remember waiting on pins and needles for weeks!

We have experienced some super lows. I’ve had some really really hard pregnancy that put a big strain on our relationship. I swear I become a different person as my hormones change and it’s been HARD. Kyle’s stress from school has caused him some real mental exhaustion that also has put a strain on our marriage and family life.

We’ve fought for our marriage everyday for four years.

I hate the phrase “marriage is work” because it doesn’t sound romantic at all. I like to think that marriage does take effort though. You don’t just wake up after four years or twenty years or fifty years with a perfect marriage. It takes two people giving all that they have to the other. It’s not going to be “fair” or “equal.” Heavens knows there are times when I can’t give as much as he does and same for him. He picks up the slack for me and I do the same for him.

Love is an action word. Love is FUN. Love is staying up too late making TikToks. Love is listening to your husband explain a dental procedure to you when you have no clue what he’s talking about.

I guess what I’ve learned after four years is that it’s the little things. They make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things. Never underestimate the power a 15 minute chat, a hidden note or a night out can have on your marriage. We haven’t always liked each other but it’s those little moments that remind us of why we got married in the first place. No one will drive you crazy like the person you love! Just like no one will make you feel more loved or cared about.

Can’t wait to see where the next 4 years take us!

Xo,

Tay
